Over a year and a half ago I became a volunteer with the civil defense in my village (this is a well established, official group in Hungary). We basically patrol the area were we live. Our aims are to protect people and property. Typically I volunteer once or twice a month for anywhere from an hour to six hours at a time. Usually it is easy work as little happens. However we have dealt with missing teens, car accidents and violence.

Why am I doing this? Everytime I patrol I do so with a partner. This has given me many opportunities to witness about Christ to other men. One is a Buddhist, others have no belief in God, whilst others have faith in some form. So far I could invite several to church (sadly none have come yet) but one man gratefully accepted a Bible! Please pray as I partner with this man tonight so that the Holy Spirit would lead our conversation!

Sometimes as believers we become inward focused on our church yet Christ commands us to make disciples of all nations (Matt 28:19). How are you reaching the lost?

On Wednesday, Katica and I flew to Lisbon, Portugal for a Christian conference. We were blessed to stay at a hotel in Sintra, right on the beach where we enjoyed excellent food, teaching and the wonderful ocean view!

With visits to the western-most point of Europe, Hell’s mouth and Lisbon we enjoyed this beautiful country.

However the highlight of the weekend was the opportunity I had to present at a workshop and to be involved in the ordination of two men from Holland.

Please pray with me that these men would bring the Gospel to the people of Holland faithfully and that they would be blessed in their ministry!

As you can see from our previous posts, we were blessed to be a small part of the work of Operation Orphan recently through clothes distribution. One of the families blessed by these clothes are the Toth family who have a beautiful six week old baby girl.

image

Péter and Judit were blessed today by people from England they have never met. We put aside clothes for their little girl that have been given in love through Operation Orphan. It is because of the kindness of so many people in England that so many people in Hungary have been blessed with good winter clothes. Thank you all for blessing us!

What an amazing day! At 0830 the first people began to gather for the clothes distribution. All the tables were full and the volunteers in place.

image

At 0900 we opened the doors and about 350 people flooded in.

image

Over the course of the day approximately 1000 people received clothing for the winter months thanks to the generosity of Operation Orphan and the kindness of so many people in the U.K. Also the clothes that were stolen the previous night were returned, with the help of a little persuasion from me 🙂 Our God is good! By 4pm it was time to tidy up and prepare for the service at 6pm.

The evening was a wonderful success with about 80 people turning up. Members of the Operation Orphan team ministered through worship songs and testimony and Gerry preached on the need for a personal relationship with Christ.

image

The response was awesome! People asked for prayer, others asked if we could start a Bible study in their village (15 kilometres from us), some cried and others joined in the worship songs! We are humbled at how amazing our God is. Thank You Lord!

One personal highlight for me, was a former student of Kathys who volunteered to translate for the testimony time. We gave her a dual language (English/Hungarian) Bible as a gift and she was so excited that she asked all of us to write on the inside cover. Please pray for Nikki to come to know the Lord! Also please pray that we would be able to deepen relationships with the people of Táp and the surrounding villages.

What a busy day! With the arrival of the amazing Operation Orphan team last night to Táp, we were able to begin preparations in earnest today for distribution tomorrow.

This morning Kathy took the team to visit both the kindergarten and the school (both of which are in the village). After lunch she then took them on a short tour of the excellent traditional peasant home ‘skanzen’ located in the heart of the village.

At 4pm we began (about 20 people in total) packing bags and boxes of clothes onto a trailer and we did this five times so as to move all the clothes to the school for distribution tomorrow.

image

After everything was moved we started unpacking and organizing all the clothes.

image

All was finished by 7.15pm and is ready for tomorrow. Sadly when I checked a little later I found that a number of items of clothes had been stolen. So tomorrow I will run security in the morning to prevent this happening again.

Distribution starts at 9am and we plan to finish at 4pm. At 6pm we then start a service which is open for all those who wish to come but especially for those blessed with these clothes. Please pray for the Operation Orphan team as they serve and also lead worship. Also please pray as I speak in Hungarian and preach the Good News of Salvation in Christ.

The photos may be a little boring but the contents are answers to prayer!

Again this year Operation Orphan are coming to Hungary, and Kathy has been instrumental in helping organize it all for both Táp and Budapest. A total of 210 boxes (195 for Táp and 15 for Budapest) filled with shoes, winter coats, hats, gloves etc will be given out on Saturday October 19th to the very needy in our locality.

image

Please pray as we help host the English mission team, organize the clothes distribution, translate and most importantly that people would come to the worship service we will hold in the local school Saturday evening after the distribution of clothes. Gerry will preach a message focusing on the need for all to know Christ as their Lord and Saviour! Please pray with us Saturday at 6pm that people would come to the worship service and that the Holy Spirit would move amongst us!

October means harvest time in Hungary and this past weekend myself and Katica had fun harvesting grapes at a friend’s home. In the above photo you can see that the grapes were then pressed for juice and wine. In just the two hours or so that we worked we harvested about 60 kilos (130lbs). However our friends started soon after dawn and only finished when light fled for the day.

Afterwards I started thinking of the great harvest for those of us in ministry. So many need to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour but so few people are actually freed to minister full time that often the harvest is not completed fully. Most of us can only give a few hours of our time to Kingdom work as our lives are busy with work, family and other commitments. Please pray for us as we work from dawn to dusk to harvest for the Lord!

Luke 10:2 And He said to them, The harvest indeed is abundant, but the farmhands are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.

Every Friday night in Győr a group of high school/college age kids meet together to worship God, read his Word and fellowship with one another. This ministry is run by a Baptist couple with a heart for reaching the youth of the city. I come on occasion to help supervise these wonderful young believers and seekers, Every week they divide into one group of boys and two groups of girls for Bible study after a time of singing modern worship songs. Recently the group has grown so large (40 or so) that they now need to begin meeting in two seperate locations! Please pray that this time of transition/multiplication would go smootly and that even more young men and women would join and come to know Christ as their Saviour.

This past Friday I led the Bible study for a group of nine teenage boys and we studied 2 Thessalonians 3 together. Their insight and commitment to the work of the Lord is truly amazing!

I am also very thankful to the Lord that our girls attend this group on a regular basis. Please pray that Csilla, Zsuzsi and Katica would grow closer to Jesus day by day. “Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honoured, just as it was with you”. 2 Thessalonians 3:1 Friday night club

Yesterday was my first day working with the Budapest Free Methodist Church. As the ministry in Budapest has recently undergone some staff changes I offered to travel up once a week to help them with any ministry needs they have. As it is a vibrant, growing church there is plenty to do! Hopefully my Tuesdays here will contain time to meet with individuals for mentoring and pastoral care and time to help with the existing Bible study group. God willing I will also be able to lead a new Bible study group that the church would like to begin.Budapest Bible study

This is not a small undertaking on my behalf. Yesterday saw me leave home at 0700 and I returned home at about 2130. I travelled by car, train, bus and foot so please pray for safety as I travel to and from Budapest on a weekly basis. I of course want to build meaningful connections with people here (many who I know due to preaching here on a regular basis) and I am grateful for your prayers as I connect with more people and try to share the love of Christ with them.

Today I had the privilege of enjoying Bible study with a group of men and putting a bed together for the assistant pastor and his wife who have just had their first child.

This type of ministry is wonderful as I get to interact on a personal level with a lot of individuals. However it is also expensive to travel to Budapest. Would you our your church, cell group or Bible study group consider supporting me as I endeavour to carry out Kingdom work in Hungary? If so then feel free to contact me for details!

This good-looking group of people are part of the Győr home fellowship group. We meet each Sunday morning at 1030 to worship the Lord, study the Bible, pray and fellowship together. As an international group (American, English, Finnish, German, Hungarian and Irish) we worship and study the Word in both English and Hungarian.  Kathy often translates for the Bible study leader (today that was Gerry) and we have just started the Acts of the Apostles.

We always meet in a different member’s home and therefore (just like with the midweek Bible study group) we have no overheads whatsoever. We desire to reach out into our different communities and regularly invite people to join us. We differ significantly in our theological viewpoints and cultural backgrounds but we all share a common goal to know the Lord better and to see the Gospel spread. Please pray with us that we would see significant physical and spiritual growth. Today we were 25 people and our numbers usually go from 6 or 7 people to as many as over 30 if everyone turns up.

Acts 1:8  But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
