As 2018 winds down, we are already deep into planning 2019. Here is a little of how it looks:
Continuing to develop the local work here in Győr – Bible studies, worship services, anti-trafficking work, counselling etc.
Focusing more on developing partnerships in Hungary with other churches and possible church planting efforts in other cities.
Trips to speak and minister in Ireland (January), Spain (February), America (June and July) and Ireland again in November. As of yet no dates for potential trips to Romania and Ukraine, but to be organised soon.
Conferences in UK (May) and Bulgaria (September)
Wedding of Zsuzsi and Zsolti in April.
Preparing for and welcoming new full-time partners to Győr (the Anderson family) in April.
VBS at a local orphanage in July.
We still have a limited number of free time slots where we can come and visit your church. Feel free to contact us and we can arrange dates and details.
We look forward to seeing many of you in 2019! May you all have a blessed and joyful Christmas and New Year!
These have been busy days and weeks of ministry for us. We recently had a wonderful church retreat by the Lake Balaton. Approximately 40 people attended and we enjoyed a weekend of teaching from Eric Perry an American pastor who has visited us several times over the past three years.
Worship, which was led by Petér, Lucas and Larry was excellent! Great to have this mix of nationalities (Hungarian, Brazilian and American) lead us in worshipping God.
We now have a second Bible study group every week. Sylvia is an excellent teacher and a women who loves God! Please pray for her as she works full time, has a family and serves the Lord through teaching the Bible.
We are also back in the orphanage, ladies coffee morning and MOPS (Mothers of pre-schoolers) and worship services of course. Our days are full with ministry and we are grateful to the Lord for all the open doors we currently have before us!
This past weekend we had the pleasure of having our friends, the Ball family visit us in Győr. As you can see in the above photo, Spencer preached a message from our ongoing series (Fruit of the Holy Spirit). It was a wonderful message and we were very blessed. We had a great turnout at church (close to 40 people) and people were incredibly generous (all giving went to the Ball family).
My good friend, Jonathan Ball, who is 11, served as our greeter that day at church and I think we had so many people come as his smile is contagious!
I am excited at what is happening Győr at the moment. Weekly Bible studies for teens and adults, monthly University group, MOPS (Mothers of preschoolers) group, ladies coffee mornings and of course worship. We are growing in size and in faith! We are also seeing significant spiritual and emotiinal healing taking place in the lives of our people! Praise God for all he is doing!
We are busy with the start of the new school year. We are grateful to the Lord for the continuation of both the Adult Bible study group and the University Bible study group. We have seen some small growth in both these groups. Naturally we are also back in the orphanage every week and Kati is working with two kids in particular and helping them significantly with both their academic work and by being a loving ‘ear’ to hear of their days. I can’t share the issue but your prayers are needed because of a situation at the orphanage. We ask that truth will prevail and those involved would be honest.
Also growing is the English language service. We had 29 people this past Sunday and they all stayed for a long time after the service to fellowship. It is becoming a real community of believers who care for one another!
I also was recently in Germany. I took part in a course on developing church communities and reaching out to people of peace. I’m not at liberty to say too much about this but I will be attending another conference on this subject soon. Prayers appreciated for all involved as it is in a country where this may be frowned upon by the government.
Please pray with us as we are being intentional about reaching the lost for Christ and building relantionships with believers across denominations to reach as many people as possible. God has great things in store for Gyor, Hungary and all of Europe!
Recently we have been praying and hoping that the Lord would send some others to join us in ministry in Gyor. As ministry grows and changes we need help and are simply unable to do more. We have some great local people who help with various different ministries, but we really could do with a missionary/missionary couple or missionary family to partner with us. Could that be you? Or perhaps you know someone who may be interested? Here is a list of areas that we need help in:
- Expanding ministry to orphans (we have a desire to see this work grow)
- Leading Bible studies (we have two weekly)
- Helping with worship and/or preaching
- Starting an English language club
- Helping with ladies coffee morning or starting a group for men
- Pastoral care
- Hosting visitors and teams
- Whatever else the Lord puts on your heart!
If you might be interested, please contact me via the contact form. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Every Thursday evening, we have Bible study and fellowship in our home for a group of University students. We started in September with seven and last night for our last meeting of the year we totalled fourteen! Our colleagues Larry and Katie Winckles joined us and led an evening of board games.
We started with a gift exchange and snacks and drinks, then we moved into a time of playing board games. Larry is currently producing several games and the young people had the opportunity to test one of them. Everyone enjoyed the evening and we look forward to seeing the group grow and develop!
I (Gerry) am currently sorting through my calendar for 2017 and am inviting requests for speaking engagements at your church, Bible study group, conference etc. Already I am partially booked for the months of January, April, June, July and November 2017.
I would be delighted to speak on our ministry work here in Hungary and our involvement with the persecuted church in the Middle-East. I primarily am available to speak in Europe, but will, of course, consider other engagements and will do my utmost to meet any requests. Please feel free to use the contact form or send me an email to ask about potential times.
Another option which I suggest is that I can Skype into your meetings and present like that. This is a simple way of hearing about our ministry without any costs involved to you or your church.
I look forward to seeing you in 2017!
Over the past two days we have been blessed to host Eric and Kari Perry from Michigan, USA. Eric is a Free Methodist Pastor and he and Kari are currently in Hungary sharing their personal stories.
Their story is one of both terrible loss and wonderful joy. They spoke honestly and openly. In Gyõr the spoke at two of our groups (adult Bible study and University Bible study). Tears flowed and our translators struggled to translate as they cried. Yet we also laughed and found our hope in Christ renewed!
On Saturday (October 15th) they will speak in Budapest at 5pm and you are welcome to visit. The address is as follows: 1113 Budapest, Villányi út 44.
Mid July and August are often very quiet times for us in ministry. However it is at these quieter times that we begin to look more to the future and ask God to lead us towards new ministry opportunities. One idea we have had is to begin a Bible study group for college age students in Gyor. We are currently planning on a small group of 10-14 people meeting in our home on a weekly basis to study the Bible, have fellowship, disciple and mentor. Under the leadership of Gerry, Zsuzsi and Zsolti we have great hopes for where the Lord is leading us!
The weekly meetings will be held in Hungarian, will focus on subjects relevant to college age students and we hope to delve deeply into questions that they need answers too. With a focus on modern worship music, coffee, sandwiches and snacks we hope it will be a place where these young men and women are refreshed both physically and spiritually. Please pray for us as we continue to plan these weekly studies.
As we do every Summer, our Wednesday Bible study group got together for a meal. After studying the book of Daniel all year it was great to spend an evening in fellowship enjoying good food!
We had Hungarian gulyas soup made the traditional way in a cauldron in the garden. We also has this superb cherry pie that is pictured. Please continue to pray for this small but growing group of believers.
