A gentleman who recently began attending our church in Győr is a refugee from the Middle East. ‘H’ was born into a Muslim family but as an adult he gave his life to Christ. Forced to flee his country he is now in Hungary and attends worship at our church. He speaks little English and even less Hungarian but we were able to communicate a little. Every week I pick him up from the refugee detention center before worship starts and he helps me set up the church. After service he kindly cleans up our worship area. I have nothing I can offer him except a little food. I wish I could speak Farsi and communicate clearly with him but I am grateful for Google translate!

Having left his home for fear of death (because of giving his life to Christ), he fled to Europe. He is now ‘in’ the Hungarian system awaiting a decision on whether or not he will be allowed to stay in Europe. If he is refused, he will be sent home and that means execution for his faith. He misses his mother and she was accepting of his decision to follow Christ, Sadly other family members were not so loving…

This morning I wrote a letter on his behalf which will be given to the authorities. I ask that you pray that my letter will be looked upon favourably and more importantly, that ‘H’ will be allowed to stay in Europe.

One photo can say so much. In this case it is of two men. Born into Muslim families in the Middle East, they gave their lives to Jesus and had to flee persecution because of their faith. They ended up in Hungary, 3800kms from home. I was contacted and was able to take them from a nearby refugee centre to church.

‘F’ was part of an underground (secret) church. His church was raided, his pastor arrested. He fled with just the clothes on his back before he could be arrested and killed for professing Christ as his Saviour. Both ‘F’ and ‘H’ have little chance of returning to ever see their family again. Parents, siblings, friends all left behind.

Tortured, beaten and mistreated, their road to freedom has been difficult. Yet now, they are free to worship God and be welcomed into a church family. Pray for them and pray that I and others would show then love of God to them.

mi-mennyi-2017

I (Gerry) am currently sorting through my calendar for 2017 and am inviting requests for speaking engagements at your church, Bible study group, conference etc. Already I am partially booked for the months of January, April, June, July and November 2017.

I would be delighted to speak on our ministry work here in Hungary and our involvement with  the persecuted church in the Middle-East. I primarily am available to speak in Europe, but will, of course, consider other engagements and will do my utmost to  meet any requests. Please feel free to use the contact form or send me an email to ask about potential times.

Another option which I suggest is that I can Skype into your meetings and present like that.  This is a simple way of hearing about our ministry without any costs involved to you or your church.

I look forward to seeing you in 2017!

As many of you know I had the honour of serving with the persecuted Church in the Middle East. It was an amazing experience that included smuggling in Bibles and Christian literature with the possible penalty being execution.

People came to Christ, worshipping communities grew large and several churches and groups were planted. Christians are aware of the persecution that is happening in the world to believers but many only know a small part of the story. Would you and your church like to know more, to be better informed?

I would like to give you an opportunity to hear about what is truly happening in the Middle East today! I desire for believers to be well informed and praying knowledgeably for the persecuted Church. If you want to know more please contact me. I am willing to travel and speak in your Church or Bible study group.

To say we feel overwhelmed by the current refugee situation is an understatement. Daily between 2000-3000 people enter Hungary illegally from neighbouring Serbia. These people are fleeing war torn Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria.

The Hungarian government has struggled to deal with this incredible influx of humanity. Many organisations are providing food, clothing and medical care.

I (Gerry) am currently trying to get permission to enter one of the largest refugee centres to hold an English language Bible study/worship time. Many but not all of these refugees are Muslim. With my experience of working in the Middle East I hope to be able to reach many with the Gospel. Please pray that the doors would open wide before me.

My book on the persecuted church in Saudi Arabia is now available in printed form from Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. The reaction to the Kindle book has been amazing and at one stage the book hit number 14 on books on evangelism and number 19 on books on missions and mission work!!!

I will also have a few copies available for purchase from me (cheaper than from amazon) for people in Hungary, the suggested donation is 1,200huf however if you cannot afford a book I will gladly gift you one, don’t be afraid to ask friends!. At the moment the book is only available in English but I do plan to have it translated into Hungarian and hopefully in the future into Arabic also.

This really is the work of a complete amateur and I apologize for the many mistakes but please know that I worked with my heart and I hope and pray that this book will be a blessing. Again twenty percent of any profits will be given to the persecuted church.

Recently I had the great privilege of preaching at the Northgate Free Methodist Church, Batavia, New York State.

Pastor Vern Saile and his team very kindly hosted me and I enjoyed speaking a total of five times on both a Saturday evening and on Sunday morning also. I spoke from Ruth chapter three and my focus was on going, protecting and giving. Please feel free to watch the video. If you are looking for a sermon series to watch at home I strongly recommend you look around at the various sermon series that the Northgate church have on their site. Pastor Vern is an excellent preacher who communicates the love of God beautifully.

The highlight of the weekend for me was on Saturday evening when two people were baptized. One was a lady in her mid-fifties who has an inoperable brain tumor. She had to climb into the baptismal font with the help of others, her public demonstration of her faith in Christ took great effort physically on her behalf. I and many others were very deeply moved. Please remember Rosemary in your prayers

I would like to announce that I have published a book. ‘Light in the Darkness: Christianity in Saudi Arabia’ is my first attempt at writing. It is a record of my year of ministry whilst there. Obviously I don’t give any real names of people, but I hope it will give Christians a much better understanding of what the persecuted church is undergoing in the Middle East. I’m very grateful to those of you who partnered with us in prayer during my time there. Twenty percent of any profits will be given to the persecuted church.

As of yet there is no print copy available but I hope that in the near future physical copies will be available for sale. I’ll update you when this happens.

If you would like to purchase a copy, you can do do on any of the Amazon websites. The book is available for Kindle, Android and PC. I’d be happy to hear your comments!

Last night we were privileged to be apart of a Bible study group in Shannon, Co. Clare. This multinational, multi denominational group of young men and women are on fire for the Lord! With members from Ireland, Togo and India (to name just a few countries), these folks are true representatives of God’s Kingdom on Earth.

They are currently studying 1 Peter 1 and their knowledge and wisdom was exceptional. Worship before and after the service was incredibly dynamic and Spirit filled.

They listened to our presentation and asked intelligent and insightful questions about ministry in Hungary and the Middle-East.

Thanks to Alec, Pearl and Elton Good for their hospitality. If you are in Shannon why not pop along and visit?
